HES Update May 2019

Next week will be a busy week for the HES project as we are supporting the Lincolnshire County Council Heritage Service, Investigate Learning team's Archaeology Festival. This is a large week long event which is taking place durring half term in several of Lincolnshire County Council's Heritage sites from Tuesday 28 May to Sunday 2 June 2019.

You may see the HES stall at the Archaeology Fair at The Collection Museum on Tuesday or spot some of the trainee site archaeologists at Wednesday's Archaeology Lincs Conference but the Heritage Skills Centre will be hosting Medieval Carving tours and finds handling with the HSC Archaeology Day on Friday 31 May. Heritage Lincolnshire archaeology trainees will be there to answer any questions you may have about learning how to become an archaeologist and can show you how to search for finds in test pits!

Following on from this and our main event of the year, is Skills Fest at the Heritage Skills Centre on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 June 2019! With many demonstrations and displays from talented local crafts and works people, this free event is a great chance to learn more about the industry that looks after our historic buildings and maybe even try your hand at a few skills! From roofing and stone masonry to blacksmithing and mud and stud (Lincolnshires vernacular earth building technique), this is a fantastic opportunity to see the people behind the architectural craftsmanship that keeps places like Lincoln Castle and Lincoln Cathedral standing.

We will also be launching our next stage of traineeships that will be due to start in Summer/ Autumn 2019. These will specialise in Heritage Joinery, Historic Buildings Conservation, Heritage Plastering and Slating. This year's HES trainees  also be there to display their new abilities and talk about their experiences training in the HES programme. It's not to be missed if you would like to learn more about the project, which is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and talk to the trainers to see if one of our future placements is for you.
