Lincoln Castle was begun under instruction from William the Conqueror, who after his victory at Hastings on 1066, soon set about imposing his rule across the Country. In 1068 the first castle was established and it wasn't long before King William visited Lincoln himself.  The Castle and Cathedral are both monuments to William's rule.  This weekend King William makes a triumphal return along with his Court and baggage trayne.  The King on royal progress to inspect his castle and hold an audience with visitors.  With a full supporting cast of soldiers, civilians, musicians and a jester to entertain the king with pastimes and merriment but also display of military skills.  

This event is in support of the exhibition "Battles and Dynasties" at The Collection and Usher art Gallery which examines with a rich collection of artefacts, documents, portraits and arms, the dynastic struggles in the Country over the Centuries including this most important of medieval battles - the Battle of Lincoln Fair 1217.

Times - Event     11am – 4.30pm.  Castle Attractions 10am – 5pm
