Victorian Prison Focus

If you are planning to study Crime and Punishment or Local History with your class you shouldn't miss the hands-on authentic Victorian Prison based workshops on offer at Lincoln Castle.

The children will love dressing up like a prisoner or the governor, learning about some of the real prisoners through object handling and original documents, finding out about Victorian medicine (includes 'meet the leeches'), tasting prison food and taking a Victorian-style writing and arithmetic class.

Extend the historical range of crime and punishment to find out about how Lincoln Castle is a site where judgement is still being served and has held prisoners since it was built in 1068.

The women's prison basement is a schools-only area with toilet and cloakroom facilities. Workshops can be designed to suit your needs from Key Stage One to Key Stage three. Depending on the numbers of children, you can book a whole day or half a day £8 and £4 per child. Please call a member of the learning team to talk through the options in more detail.
