Silversmithing is a traditonal craft that many appreciate. It's a form of metal working that is centred on silver and crafting it into objects. It goes beyond jewellery making (though that is undeniably part of the craft) and encoporates a range of skills for making a wide range of silver items such as candlesticks, spoons, boxes, tops of walking sticks to name but a few. Silver tends to be worked "cold", this means it is hammered, sawed, shaped, bent and worked at room temperature with a process called annealing providing a heat treatment to the work. Our workshops to date have foucsed on the jewellery element as an accessible way of introducing people to the craft, though jewellers have some techniques distinctive to those of a silversmith.
