A Volunteer's Story

One of my first and favourite memories of volunteering at Lincoln Castle is assisting at the Medieval Joust that summer, the atmosphere was amazing and I felt like I was gaining more confidence in myself as well as meeting new people who shared the same interests as me. When Lincoln Castle opened its gates on the 1st April 2015 revealing its renovation project to the public, I was partaking in many different volunteer roles, helping with crowd control in busy areas such as the new Magna Carta vault as well as offering guidance and knowledge about the site to members of the public. I would recommend volunteering to anybody who was thinking about applying, my volunteering experience gave me all the confidence skills I needed as well as assisting with my university course, it’s such a rewarding feeling knowing you have given your time to help others have a fantastic experience. I made so many friends along the way; staff members and volunteers work together as a team to deliver the best visitor experience possible. Volunteering also gave me the knowledge I needed surrounding the Heritage sector in order to know that this was the right career for me.
