Sketching Buildings


Spend an afternoon once a month learning and developing your drawing and sketching skills.

Based within the Heritage Skills Centre, our new Sketching Buildings afternoons aim to help you capture building features whether you want to record them because they bring you joy, or are a buildings professional unconfident in your drawing skills. The sessions will make the most of the Heritage Skills Centres location in Lincoln Castle to sketch within the Castle walls and surrounding areas. From beginners to those with developed skills this is a chance to interpret and record buildings in a variety of mediums throughout the course. Participants will be introduced to a variety of mediums throughout the Sketching Buildings sessions, as well as have the chance to draw in a range of places both indoors and outdoors.

No previous drawing skills or experience necessary. Feel free to bring your own materials and sketchbook, however a basic set of items will be supplied for each session.

The full run of sessions will encompass the following:

  • Session 1: Introduction to building sketching using any medium you are already comfortable with. - March
  • Session 2: Focus on perspectives - April
  • Session 3: Better use of pencils. July 3rd
  • Session 4: Discover the use of charcoal. August 7th
  • Session 5: The beauty of line and wash. September 4th.
  • Session 6: Speed drawing techniques with feature focus. October 2nd
  • Session 7: Developing sketches with a mixed media work up. November 6th . 

The sessions will run from 2pm -4pm. Session dates are Wednesday afternoons. 

Participants should wear comfortable clothes, and closed toe shoes. Sessions may take place outside and you should bring appropriate clothing for the weather of the day. You may also wish to bring a painting apron or shirt. Feel free to bring your own materials and sketchbook, as basic set of items will be supplied for each session. Suitable for ages 16+

Tutor: Marcelle Seabourne. 

Marcelle is an practising artist, who has exhibited county-wide and further afield. She is also a Member of Lincolnshire Society of Artists and West Norfolk Artists Association and has over 20 years teaching experience.
