Enter the Victorian Prison and meet a colourful cast of Victorian characters as they share fascinating stories and legends inspired by the castle’s remarkable past. With storytelling, character encounters, and plenty to discover, it’s a lively day out for curious minds of all ages.
Lady Agatha Worthy: The famous archaeologist is on hand to talk you through some of the incredible finds from the digs and discoveries within the Castle walls. Can you help her work out how they got here and why, and the stories they might tell us?
Professor Athelstan Worthy: The noted historian has just made a study of the ancient documents held within the vaults of the Castle, including the Chronica Majora, and is anxious to share his findings about the incredible events of the Battle of Lincoln 1217!
Clement and Clementina Worthy: The famous actors have come to Lincoln seeking inspiration for a new play. Perhaps you might be able to help them come up with some ideas, as they seem to be very easily distracted by constantly showing off!
Ezekiel Worthy: Drainage engineer. There is something unpleasant lurking in the bowels of the Prison, causing both discomfort and sickness. Is it a curse? Is it as wandering ghost? Or is it the drains? Find out all about the problems of drains, sewers and cess pits with our expert!
Captain Absalom Staffage: Our showman extraordinaire, joins us with his cornucopia of wonders!
Encounter a host of colourful characters from the Ragged Victorians and enjoy thrilling displays of fire juggling in the Castle grounds from What A Palaver.
The Ultimate Festival of History Experience is included in the Castle Day ticket and free for annual pass holders. Lincoln Castle’s ground will remain free to explore, with What A Palaver on hand to entertain visitors throughout the day.
